The beautiful natural water reservoirs are surrounded by breathtaking natural landscapes.  The maximum depth of lakes is only 4 meters.

But that’s not all – the lakes bed is a rich deposit of medicinal mud. That makes them the perfect spot for a perfect spa day! Rest, relax and rejuvenate in this delightful paradise offers a balanced blend of serenity and health. And while you’re there, enjoy the lakes – one of the most interesting attractions in Tatarstan with its gorgeously clear blue water.

Three lakes

“Blue lakes” near Kazan – a stunning natural complex – consists of not one, not two, but three water reservoirs! These three lakes – a large one, a small one, and a flowing one – have been recognized as a reserve since 1994. However, despite this, many people are unaware of the existence of all three lakes due to their location. The majority of Kazan citizens and visitors usually catch the sight of only the small lake, which is surrounded by changing cabins and bridges.

While most people visit this lake for some relaxation, it is worth noting that water sports are not as frequently organized here as they are in the other two lakes. Therefore, for a more adventurous experience, it might be worth exploring the other two lakes.

History and a legend

Did you know that Blue lakes have an incredible history dating back 200 years? Thanks to natural factors, these lakes have the clearest and purest water you’ll ever see. What’s even more amazing is the high level of water transparency makes it possible to see the bottom of the lake with the naked eye from the shore. It’s like looking into a completely different world! If you visit “Blue lakes” you’ll be mesmerized by the vivid and unique illusion created by the transparency. You’ll almost forget that you’re standing next to a deep lake that stretches beyond four metres, it’s that clear.

Blue lakes are shrouded in folk rumor. There are legends describing how the lake appeared. The legend tells about a girl who fell in love with the son of the khan – the local king. He loved her, too. But the happiness of the couple was not destined to happen. The young man heroically died in a battle. Upon learning of this, the girl was in despair… Time passed, but she could not find peace. Seeking solace, the girl wandered into the forest. For a long time she shed tears here, until she completely dissolved from grief. In the place where the inconsolable lover cried, a blue lake appeared.
