Tanakeevka burial ground is a monument (the 9th-10th centuries) that is one of the most important in Eastern Europe and crucial in illuminating significant questions of the history of Volga Bulgaria, such as the timing of the appearance in the Middle Volga region of this new political entity, the development of a general Volga culture as the result of the interaction of various cultural components, the nature and timing of the appearance of Muslim rites, and so on.
