Menzelinsk is situated on the low bank of the river Menzelya, 292 km to the east of Kazan, and 65 km to the east of the railway station Krugloe Pole. The settlement was founded in the 16th century. The town is the administrative centre of the Menzelinsky district. There are factories producing beer and mead, matches, candles, and bricks.
