  • Bagryazhskyi zoological (hunting) reserve

    Location: to the north of the Zainsk-Sarmanovo highway, Zainsky district

    The reserve is located in a big forest and steppe zone, what is the reason wooded steppe animals live there: woodgrouse, wild goat, steppe-marmot.

  • Castle of Khan Bairash

    Location: Zainsky district, the Bugulma-Belebeevo upland

    On Mount Lysaya (Bald Hill) has been found an epigraphic monument with characters carved on stone, relating to the epoch of the Mongol conquests. On the stone the name of a Bulgar has been carved, a defender of the motherland against the conquerors. According to the historian and chronicler of the 17th century Khissam ed-Din, the son of Sherif ed-Din, the hill was the site of the castle of Khan Bairash whose guest in the winter of 1395-1396 was the celebrated Timur Alsak or Tamerlane. On the slopes of the hill diggings by 18th century miners have been found: they were digging for ore for the Ishteryalovo copper melting plant.



  • Holy Spring (Svyatoi Klyuch) at Gul'kino

    Location: 40 km south-west of Zainsk, near the Chuvash village of Gul’kino, Zainsky district

    The spring, what was found in the 18th century, is famous since ancient tomes for its healing water. Not far from it there are now a chapel stands. A path laid with stones lead.

  • Honey Spring (Medovyi Rodnik)

    Location: the Gul’kino village, Zainsky district

    The Gul’kino apiary located at the foot of the hill has been here so long that it seems to be older than the centuries-old lime trees. It says that it was established by an elderly monk in tsarism times. The spring water pours out next to the beehives. The water because of that is sweet like the flower nectar which, mingling with the morning dew, flows straight into the spring.
