The centre of the district is Kukmor. Area – 1493,1 square km. Population – 53,6 thousand people. The district was founded in 1965.
The settlement is situated on the bank of the river Nurminka (a tributary of the Vyatka river), 120 km to the north-east from Kazan. Population – 16,8 thousand people. The settlement was founded in the 17th century. There is a railway station and a pier.
