The administrative center of the district is Menzelinsk. Area – 1919,8 square km. The district was founded in 1930. Menzelinsk is situated on the low bank of the river Menzelya, 292 km to the east of Kazan, and 65 km to the east of the railway station Krugloe Pole. The settlement was founded in the 16th century.
