The administrative centre of the district is Baltasi. Area – 1094,5 square km. The village of Baltasi is situated on the bank of the river Shoshma (a tributary of the Vyatka river), 105 km to the north-east from Kazan, 25 km to the north-west from the railway station Shemordan.
