The administrative centre of the district is Aksubaevo. Area – 1440,1 square km. The district was founded in 1965. The settlement of Aksubaevo has situated 210 km to the south-east from Kazan, on the river Bolshaya Stulcha (a tributary of the river Cheremshan), 58 km to the north from the railway station Nurlat.
